The nation paying homage to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement of 1952 is observing Immortal Ekushey (Language Martyrs Day) with the clock striking one minute past midnight Tuesday. The day also is observing across the world as International Mother Language Day.
Walking barefoot to the Shaheed Minars with wreaths and flowers singing ‘Amar bhaiyer rokte rangano Ekushey February’, people will pay their deep respects to the heroes of the Language Movement, who sacrificed their lives for the recognition of Bangla as one of the state languages of erstwhile Pakistan.

Savar, Feb 20: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday admitted their past mistakes and failures as individuals, but promised to build up a new Bangladesh taking lessons from the past follies if people give her the responsibility to run the country again.
“As human beings, definitely we have had mistakes, failures and limitations, but we didn’t commit any wrongs in the past deliberately and we won’t do so in the future,” she said, addressing the concluding ceremony of the three-day celebration, marking the completion of 40 years of Gonoshasthya here in the afternoon.
