Sherpur: Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury on Sunday said BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will turn the country into a haven of militants if her party returns to power.
“Awami League has eliminated militancy from the country. She (Khaleda) will turn the country into a haven of militants again by nurturing them. And this is how she will change the nation,” Matia said.
The Agriculture Minister was addressing a rally at Uttar Nakshi School and College premises in Nalitabari upazila after distributing VGF rice and relief materials among the poor.
Criticising Khaleda Zia for her plan to ‘change the face of the country’, Matia said, “We’ve given students free textbooks. Khaleda Zia will stop the programme and will make them illiterate, if comes to power.”
She said there should be no comparison between Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wajed Joy.
“Joy obtained Master’s degree from the Harvard University while Tarique somehow passed the SSC,” she said adding that the idea of Joy is ‘Digital Bangladesh’, while Tarique’s is looting.
Matia, also the presidium member of the ruling Awami League, urged all to get united behind the rows of the boat, the election symbol of Awami League, ahead of the national election.
“Boat liberated the country… boat provides textbooks to the students free, boat carries out welfare activities for people…boat leads the country to its forward march,” she said.
