Chittagong: Police on Sunday afternoon arrested 58 students of Chittagong Government College suspecting their involvement in the violence unleashed in Badurtala of the city in the morning.
Officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station Atique Ahmed said a police team conducted a drive at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the college around 4:30pm and arrested the 58 students.
Those who are innocent will be released after scrutiny, said the OC.
At least six people, including two policemen, were injured as Jamaat-Shibir activists went on the rampage at Badurtala under Panchlaish police station in the port city in the morning.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Shahiddullah said some activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir brought out a sudden procession in the area around 10:30 am.
The unruly activists vandalised eight vehicles, including a police pickup, during the incident.
Police also fired gunshots to disperse the Jamaat-Shibir men. Later, the Jamaat-Shibir activists fled the scene exploding two or thee crude bombs.
Police arrested three people from the spot for their suspected involvement with the incident.
