Faridpur: A court here on Tuesday placed an official of a Sonali Bank Faridpur branch and his wife on remand in a case filed for embezzling Tk 3.11 crore.
Judge Morshed Imtiaz of the district Cognisance Court-2 put Zakir Hossain on a six-day remand while his wife Sheuly Akhter on a one-day remand.
The court passed the order when deputy director of Faridpur Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Maloy Kumar Saha produced the couple before it.
Earlier, on Monday, the ACC arrested Zakir, cash officer of Sadarpur branch of the state-owned bank, and Sheuly in connection with the misappropriation of the money.
Zakir allegedly misappropriated Tk 3.11 crore of 138 customers in 2005. He deposited the money into the account of his wife Sheuly through fraudulent practices.
The matter came to light in 2011 when he was suspended.
On July 18 last year, manager Abdul Jalil of the bank branch filed a case with Faridpur Senior Special Judge Court apart from a department case.
Later, the case was transferred to ACC.
