Khulna: The transport owners and workers of Khulna division who went on an indefinite strike on Monday called off their strike after six hours at noon following a fruitful meeting with the local administration.
General Secretary of Khulna District Bus-Minibus-coach Owners’ Association, Mohammad Anwar Hossain Sona said they called off the strike as the superintendent of police assured them of solving their problems.
He said if their problems are not solved they will announce fresh program.
Earlier, Khulna District Bus-Minibus-Coach Owners’ Association and Khulna Motor Workers’ Union called an indefinite strike in Khulna division on Monday morning to press for stopping movement of shallow engine-run human haulers.
No long-distance buses or trucks were seen plying the roads of 10 districts under the division, connecting the capital, after the strike started in the morning.
Some other small modes of vehicles like microbus, battery-run three-wheeler and easy-bike were plying the roads as usual despite the strike.
Anwar Hossain Sona, general secretary of Khulna Bus-Minibus-Coach Owners’ Association said the strike was called protesting the repeated false assurances from the government side to remove the shallow engine vehicles, like Nasiman and Kariman, from the highway.
