At least five people were killed and six others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Jessore and Sunamganj districts on Sunday.
In Jessore, four people were killed and five others injured as they were struck by the thunderbolt at Namajgram Pachar in Benapole in the afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Saddam Hossain, 20, son of Bhutto, Tuhin Hossain, 17, son of Billal Hossain, Imran Hossain, 14, son of Jabbar Hossain of Mankia village, and Matier Rahman, 45, son of Mafij Uddin of Sarbahungda village.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station, said the lightning struck the victims while they were catching fish in a water body amid rain at about 4 pm, leaving four killed on the spot and five others injured.
The injured were rushed to Navaron Hospital.
A pall of gloom descended on the area following the incident.
In Sunamganj, a boy was killed and his brother injured by a lightning strike at Nazarpur village in Dharmapasha upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ekramul Haque, 12, son of Mohammad Shamsul Haque of the village.
Locals said Ekramul died on the spot while his brother Tofazzal Haque, 17, was injured when a thunderbolt struck them while catching fish at Shonamaral water body in the village at about 10 am.
