Four people, including a couple of lovers, allegedly committed suicide in Sylhet, Faridpur and Moulvibazar districts on Sunday.
In Sylhet, a devastated girl committed suicide in the morning just one hour after her boyfriend killed himself in the city.
The victims were identified as Tanjina Jahan Liza and Nafizur Rahman, both BBA first year students of Leading University.
Police said Nafizur took his life by hanging himself from the ceiling of their house at Hawapara around 10am.
As the news travelled past to his lover Liza, she also hanged herself at their residence in Naya Sarak area around 11am.
Being informed, a team of Kotwali Police Station recovered the two bodies.
Contacted, officer-in-charge of the police station Ahmed Nasir Uddin said they were investigating whether the two university students committed suicide due to love affairs.
In Faridpur, a newlywed girl killed herself at Maligram village in Bhanga upazila in the early hours in a huff after she had a tiff with her mother on Saturday afternoon.
The victim is Tanju Akhter, 18, wife of Tuhin Miah who works at a private firm in the capital.
Tanju, daughter of expatriate Shawkat Bepari, was married off to Tuhin only one month back. She had been living at her father’s house as Tuhin was yet to take her to his house.
Family members said Tanju had an altercation with her mother on Saturday afternoon.
Later, she hanged herself sometime after midnight. She was found hanged from the ceiling of the bedroom room in the morning.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Faridpur Sadar hospital for post mortem.
In Moulvibazar, Sudhan Chandra Dev, 60, an employee of Merry Gold Filling Station at Kalapur in Srimangal upazila, reportedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan at the staff quarters in the morning.
Locals said Sudhan came to the filling station from his home at Yusufpur village in the upazila in the morning.
Co-workers found him hanging from the staff quarters ceiling fan around 10am.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
