Four people were murdered in separate incidents in Jamalpur, Comilla and Chuadanga districts on Saturday night and Sunday.
In Jamalpur, a couple was killed by unknown miscreants at Jonail Nayapara village in Madarganj upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Rabijal Islam, 42, and his wife Marjina Begum, 35, of the village.
Quoting locals, police said the body of Rabijal was recovered from the bathroom of their house while his wife’s slaughtered body was found at the courtyard of the house around 8:30.
Police said Rabijal’s body bore some marks of injury.
The bodies were sent to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police detained Rabijal’s elder brother Sujurul Islam and his (Sujurul) son Mosharraf for interrogation.
In Comilla, a housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her uncle-in-law (paternal uncle of her husband) over a trifling matter at Chota Chalunda village in Sadar Dakkhin upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Nurjahan Akhter Banu, 25, wife of Sumon Mia, a Qatar expatriate and resident of the village.
Locals said an altercation ensued between Nurjahan and her uncle-in-law Golap Hossain over a trivial matter in the morning. At one stage, Golap beat Nurjahan with an iron rod, leaving her dead on the spot.
Police arrested Golap in this connection. A case was filed.
In Chuadanga, a middle-aged man was beaten and chopped to death allegedly by his cousins for land at Madenipur village in Jibannagar upazila on Sunday noon.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Aziz, 38, son of Ijjat Ali of Hugli Pantapara village in Moheshpur upazila of Jhenidah district.
Police and locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between Aziz and his cousins (sons of paternal uncle) Hasan and Majed -- of Madenipur village over a piece of land.
Al altercation ensued between them at about 12pm on Sunday.
At one stage, Hasan and Mazed beat up Aziz and chopped him with sharp weapons, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body around 5pm.
Meanwhile, a housewife who was injured by rivals over a trivial matter at Kadamtali Bakshipara village in Gabtali upazila of Bogra district on August 15 died at the upazila health complex on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Rasheda Khatun, 30, wife of Wahed Ali of the village.
Police said an altercation ensued among the nephews of Wahed and sons of three men -- Sana, Mannan and Ashraf -- over a trivial matter recently.
At one stage, the three men and their associates beat up Rasheda as she supported the family of his husband’s brother during the recent altercation.
On August 15, they beat Rasheda mercilessly, leaving her injured.
She was admitted to Gabtali Upazila Health Complex where she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday night.
Later, police recovered the body for her post mortem.
