Kushtia: A teacher of Kushita Govt Women’s College has been attached to the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) as an officer on special duty (OSD) on charge of repeatedly trying to seduce one of his female students.
The punitive action was taken against Sajedul Islam, chemistry teacher of the college, following a probe report.
The victim who passed this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate examination lodged a written complaint to college principal Dr Jamir Uddin on September 2 where she alleged that Sajedul started enticing her to have an illicit relationship with him on various promises soon after she got admitted into the college for 2011-2012 academic year.
The teacher promised her to ensure GPA-5 for her in HSC exam, take her on foreign tours, buy a car for her and get her admitted into private medical college.
As the girl continued to turn down his proposals, Sajedul tried to seduce her on fresh promise that he would divorce his wife and marry the girl, the victim said.
The teacher also threatened to kidnap and slaughter her if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
She said she kept silent for the two years apprehending damage to her educational life.
Following the allegation, the college authorities formed a five-member probe panel which submitted its report to the college principal on September 7.
Kushtia deputy commissioner Syed Belal Hossain sent a letter to the education secretary on Sunday requesting him to take punitive action against the accused teacher.
He was attached to the DSHE as an OSD on the day.
An order signed by senior assistant secretary to the Education Ministry Monir Hossain Chowdhury reached the college through fax on Monday which asked Sajedul to report to the DSHE by Wednesday.
