Two separate courts in Rajshahi and Bogra sentenced three people to death penalty for murder.
In Rajshahi, two people were convicted of killing businessman Aminul Haque in 2011 and awarded death sentence.
The condemned convicts are Sarwar Hossain, son of late Osman Goni of Islampara, and Abdul Hakim, son of Nazrul Islam of Charpara, in Karimganj upazila in Kishoreganj district.
According to the prosecution, police recovered the body of Aminul Haq Save ue, sliced into nine pieces, kept in a sack from the house of Sarwar after three days of his abduction from Alupatti in the city on April 12, 2011.
Police arrested Sarwar and his associate Abdul Hakim for their alleged involvement in the killing.
After examining the records and 13 witnesses, Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Shamsul Alam Khan handed down the verdict in a crowded courtroom, acquitting Sarwar’s wife Nargis as allegation brought against her was not proved.
In Bogra, a court sentenced a man to death for killing a minor girl after rape in 2001.
The court also fined the convict, Nazrul Islam, son of late Mafiz Uddin of Narayan Shahar village in Shibganj upazila, Tk 1 lakh.
According to the prosecution, Nazrul strangulated Fazila Khatun, 10, of Dopara village in the upazila, to death after violating her on October 6, 2001.
Police arrested Nazrul on October 18 and he confessed to his crime before a court.
After examining the records and witnesses, Bogra Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Judge (District Judge) Rasheda Sultana handed down the verdict.
