Sylhet: A case was filed against 68 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for their alleged attack on the rally of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) on Sunday.
Sub-Inspector Shahabuddin of Kotwali Police Station on Sunday night filed the case against 18 named and 50 unidentified people, said Ezaz Ahmed, deputy police commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan police.
Sylhet district unit BCL acting president Hiron Mahmud Nipu was made the main accused of the case.
None has yet been arrested in this connection but police is trying to arrest the people involved in the attack, also said Ezaz Ahmed.
Meanwhile, the central committee of BCL on Sunday night suspended all activities of its Sylhet district unit committee following the incident.
CPB and BSD on Sunday called a half-day hartal in the district for today (Monday), which ended with peacefully around 12pm, protesting the attack on their rally by BCL men.
When a joint rally of CPB and BSD was in progress at the Court Point in the city on Sunday afternoon some local BCL activists, who were passing by the rally with a procession, attacked it around 5pm, leaving 30 people, including CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim and officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Akter Ahmed, injured.
