Sylhet: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday inaugurated the drilling of well-7 of Koilashtila Gas Field by laying its foundation stone from a public rally at MC Academy Playground in Golapganj upazila.
The field has a reserve of 44 million barrels of oil and 658 billion cubic feet of gas.
Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration Company (Bapex) will start main drilling in December this year. The drilling is scheduled to be completed in March 2014. The estimated cost for the drilling is Tk 220 crore.
Managing Director of Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL) Md Tofazzel Hossain said that they will be able to extract around 500 barrels of oil and 25 mmcfd of gas every day from this well.
Bapex in 2011-12 carried out 3D surveys in Koilashtila, Rashidpur and Haripur. It found oil and gas reserves in several zones below the gas structures in Kailashtila and Haripur.
There is a reserve of around 109 million barrels of oil in five layers of Koilashtila gas field and 44 million barrels of the total reserve are extractable.
Sheikh Hasina also laid the foundation stone of the gas distribution pipeline in Biswanath and Balaganj upazilas under the Sylhet gas transmission network project.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated Sylhet National Heart Foundation Hospital, the Victim Support Centre of Kotwali Model Police Station, the Office of the Regional Director of the Technical Education Directorate, Sylhet, 31-bed South Surma Upazila Health Complex, 294- meter bridge on the Surma River at Kanaighat Bazar, Bagbari Model High School in Bianibazar and Sylhet District Family Welfare Superintendent Training Institute.
She laid the foundation stone of Sylhet Marine Academy, upgradation of Sylhet Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital to a Shishu Hospital, 360-metre guarder bridge on the Giain River in Goainghat upazila.
