Announcing interim pay-hike for the public servants, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said the government has decided to provide 20 percent dearness allowance to the government officials and employees apart from constituting a permanent pay commission.
“We’ve decided to give 20 percent dearness allowance (for the government officials and employees),” she said while addressing the National Grand Rally of Professionals held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.
Hasina, however, said that the maximum pay-hike for the government officials and employees would be around Tk 6,000.
PM’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Professionals Coordination Council president Justice AFM Mesbahuddin and secretary general Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan, Dhaka University vice chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, BUET vice chancellor Prof SM Nazrul Islam, Professionals Coordination Council leaders from division level and USA also spoke on the occasion.
The Prime Minister said that after assuming office this time, her government gave a pay commission to the government officials and employees and increased their salaries and allowances.
“We’ll now go for forming a permanent pay commission so that there is no need for forming the pay commission time and again… we’ll take necessary steps in this regard,”
As part of the government bid to bring dynamism in the administration, she said that 35 posts from 26 cadres have been upgraded to Grade 1.
Besides, Hasina said the retirement age in government service has already been increased to 59 while the 8th wage board has been constituted for the journalists with the announcement of 75 percent increase in their salaries and allowances.
