Chittagong: Two cases were filed against 12 people, including Mufti Izharul Islam, nayeb-e-ameer of Hefajat-e-Islam and his son Harun Izharul on Tuesday in connection with Monday’s blast at a local madrasah in the port city.
Abdur Rauf, Chittagong Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner (Panchlaish Zone) said police filed one case under Explosives Act and another under Acid Act with Khulshi police station at noon.
Mufti Izharul Islam and his son Harun Izharul were among the accused in both cases.
On Monday, at least five students sustained burn injuries in a ‘mysterious’ explosion in a room on the 1st floor of the four-storey hostel of Jamiatul Ulum Islami Madrasah at Lalkhan Bazar in the city. Among the injured, one student, Habibur Rahman, 23, succumbed to his injuries at Chittagong Medical College Hospital early Tuesday.
Police closed the madrashah on Tuesday morning.
Deputy Commissioner of CMP (north) Harunur Rahsid Hazari told that all academic activities of the madrasah will remain suspended until further order.
Earlier, On Monday, police conducted a drive in surrounding areas of the madrasah following the incident and recovered huge explosives making materials, four unexploded grenades. Police also recovered 16 bottles of acid from the residence of Mufti Izharul.
The explosion is believed to have taken place while making bombs.
