Computer Science Education Week will be held across the country on December 9-15. The event will be held simultaneously in a total of 160 countries, including Bangladesh, across the globe.
On the occasion, Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and BASIS Institute of Technology and Management (BITM) is jointly organizing ”BASIS Hour of Code”, which is the first ever in the country’s history, says a press release.
Prior to the event, BASIS, the national trade body for software and IT enabled services industry of Bangladesh, held a press conference at its Karwan Bazar office on Monday.
BASIS president Shameem Ahsan, senior vice-president Syed Almas Kabir, secretary general Russell T Ahmed, director Shah Imraul Kaeesh and others spoke at the press briefing.
Speaking on the occasion, Shameem Ahsan said the demand of computer science is increasing day by day across the globe.
This will open up immense potential for Bangladesh. “The BASIS Hour of Code is aimed at creating interests among Bangladeshi students regarding study on computer science and also motivating them to choose Information Technology (IT) as their career in the future,” he said.
BASIS Hour of Code is an hour long introduction about computer programming. Its main objective is to remove fear about coding and make it enjoyable to the students.
Anyone can take part in the programming without any prior experience.
BASIS Hour of Code will be held online for an hour everyday during the week long program. Those who are interested can take part in the online programming through google hangout.
BASIS Hour of Code will be observed at BASIS auditorium from 11am to 12pm on December 13. Those who are interested may take part in it from BASIS website through registration.
In his speech, Shameem Ahsan called on the educational institutions to observe the BASIS Hour of Code from December 9-15.
He said that BASIS will extend its necessary assistance to the educational institutions, which will take initiative in this regard.
