Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) began across the country on Monday as in other countries, aiming to create interest among students on Computer Science.
The event will simultaneously continue in a total of 160 countries, including Bangladesh, across the globe until December 15, said a press release.
The CSEdWeek is an annual program dedicated to showing students the importance of computer science education.
Organized by the Computing in the Core coalition and Code.org, it is held in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906).
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan inaugurated the week’s program at a ceremony at Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) auditorium in the city.
Its main objective is to remove fear about coding and make it enjoyable to the students.
Anyone can take part in the programming without any prior experience. BASIS Hour of Code will be held online for an hour everyday during the week long program.
ICT Secretary Nazrul Islam thanked BASIS for arranging the program and called upon youths to come forward to study on Computer Science and take IT as their future profession.
BASIS president Shameem Ahsan, Convener of BASIS Hour of Code, Computer Science Education Week and also Treasurer of BASIS Shah Imraul Kaeesh, BASIS secretary general Russell T Ahmed, BASIS secretary Hashim Ahmad and others were present at the inaugural function.
