Naogaon: A Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami man was killed and 15 people were injured in a clash with locals and traders at Abadpurkur Bazar in Raninagar upazila during the countrywide hartal on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Shukbar Ali, 60, son of Hatem Ali of Bhandergram village in the upazila.
Witnesses said Jamaat-Shibir activists brought out a procession from Abadpukur intersection at noon in support of the shutdown enforced by the party protesting the death warrant against its assistant secretary general Abdul Quader Mollah.
The unruly activists vandalized a tractor and several shops at the bazaar from the procession.
Later, angry locals and traders engaged in a clash with the Jamaat-Shibir men when 16 people were injured from the both sides.
Critically injured Shukbar was rushed to Naogaon Sadar Hospital where doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He, however, died on the way to the hospital.
Officer-in-charge of Raninagar Police Station Abdullah Al Masud confirmed the incident.
