They have a list of around 2,000 ‘criminals’ to arrest during the drive launched on Wednesday midnight.Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman said the joint forces, comprising RAB, BGB, DB and CID, arrested 25 of the ‘listed terrorists’ until Thursday afternoon. He said five were detained from Demra, two from Kadamtali and 18 from Jatrabarhi.RAB Additional Director General Ziaul Ahsan told that the list included those involved in crimes include killing, transporting illegal arms and drug peddling. The joint forces’ operation began 10 days before the Jan 5 parliamentary polls.Ahsan said the forces had information that ‘identified criminals’ from outside Dhaka could hide in the capital. He said they wanted to play a ‘role in establishing rule of law’ by nabbing the ‘criminals’.Masudur said uniformed members of the law-enforcing agencies were conducting the drive.Asked if there was any political leader or activist among the arrestees, he said: “You can know the names and addresses of them soon.”Public movement in the capital has lessened following the launch of the drive. But the rush of vehicle registration-seekers at Bangladesh Road Transport Authority office at Mirpur was greater on Thursday.Aminul Ishak, coming from Savar, said he had purchased a motorbike several months ago but did not apply for registration.“Now I’ve come here to apply for registration of my motorbike hearing that the joint forces have launched an operation.”
