A farmer and a schoolboy have been murdered in Bagerhat and Kushtia.
In Bagerhat, a farmer was beaten to death allegedly by his cousins over a land-related dispute at Barshibaha village in Morelganj upazila on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Mosharraf Sheikh, 55, son of Abdul Hakim of the village.
M Azizul Haque, officer-in-charge of Morelganj Police Station, said Mosharraf and his cousins had been at loggerheads for long over the ownership of a piece of land.
Both groups earlier lodged cases against each other over the issue.
As a sequel to that, the rivals picked a quarrel with Mosharraf while planting seedlings of Boro paddy on the disputed land adjacent to his house.
At one stage, they started beating up the farmer, leaving him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
In Kushtia, a schoolboy was hacked to death by criminals in a place near Shibpur Graveyard under Kushtia Islamic University Police Station on Monday night.
The victim was identified as Raqibul Islam, 15, who appeared at this year’s Junior School Certificate Examination (JSC). He was son of Riazul Haque, a Dubai expatriate, of Bel Baradi village under Horinarayanpur union of the police station.
Police said Raqibul went out of his house on bicycle to know his JSC exam result around 10 am on Monday. But he did not return home.
Police recovered his body on Tuesday morning from near the graveyard.
The reasons behind the killing could not be known yet. No one was arrested in connection with the incident.
