Chittagong: An Islami Chhatra Shibir man was shot to death by cops while Shibir activists were trying to snatch ballot boxes from Bhabaninpur polling centre in Lohagarah upazila on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Enamul Haque Lalu, 21, son of Kamal Uddin of Khejurpara village in the upazila.
Witnesses said as a group of Shibir activists attacked the polling centre at Bhabanipur Government Primary School at Logagarah under Chittagong-15 constituency around 3:45pm, the law enforcers opened fire on them to foil their attempt, leaving Enamul dead on the spot.
Meanwhile, at least 10 people, including the presiding officer, were injured in an attack by Jamaat-Shibir men at a polling centre in Satkania upazila in the afternoon.
Of the injured, presiding officer Jamal Uddin, 42, assistant presiding officer Nasimul Islam, sub-inspector Tajul Islam of Satkania Police Station and its constable Nikhil were admitted to a local hospital.
Witnesses said the Jamaat-Shibir activists attacked Uttar Dhemsha Government Primary School centre in the afternoon and beat some officers and police with sticks and iron rods indiscriminately, leaving the 10 people, including Jamal, Nasimul, Tajul and Nikhil, injured.
The attackers also broke down both the hands of the presiding officer.
