Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked the newly-elected party MPs to go to their respective areas and work with people to help maintain the law and order.
“The Prime Minister asked all the AL MPs to go to their respective constituencies and work for maintaining the law and order situation with the help of mass people,” AL publicity secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud told reporters emerging from the AL Parliamentary Party (ALPP) meeting held at the Parliament building.
Hasan Mahmud said the Prime Minister also asked the MPs to engage their all-out efforts for saving the lives and property of people from the destructive politics of BNP-Jamaat alliance.
He said Hasina also advised the MPs, especially those elected for the first time, to practice and study more on the constitution and the rules of business of parliament.
A number MPs who were present at the meeting told that the Prime Minister requested the MPs to select a new leader of the house post. “I’ve already performed this duty for several times, please bring in a new face,” she said.
They also said the meeting entrusted Sheikh Hasina with the responsibility to select the deputy leader of the house and chief whip for the 10th parliament.
Sheikh Hasina also asked the MPs to work with utmost sincerity and honesty. “You should work with honesty, if you have honesty, you will get courage for works,” she added.
Chief whip of the 9th Parliament Abdus Shahid said the President will summon the first session of the 10th Parliament in consultation with the Prime Minister.
In this connection, he mentioned that there is an obligation to summon the session within 30 days of the gazette notification.
