Police have arrested three people in connection with recent petrol bomb attacks on two vehicles in the city that burnt three people, including a cop.
The arrested are- Rabiul Islam Nayon, 26, joint convener of Mohammadpur thana unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Anup Chandra Roy, 24, and Zobair Hossin, 22.
Sources at the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police yesterday said a team of Kalabagan Police Station arrested the trio while they were hurling petrol bombs on vehicles at CR Dutta Road on January 6.
The detectives came to know after collecting information about the arrested and analyzing those that they were involved in the petrol bomb attacks on a police vehicle and a bus at Bangla Motor and Paribgah in the city respectively.
Later, they were shown arrested in the cases filed in connection with the incidents and taken on remand after producing them before a Dhaka Metropolitan Court.
DB official sources said Nayon made a confessional statement before the court when he said he along with the two others carried out the petrol bomb attacks.
On December 24, miscreants torched a requisitioned bus of police in Bangla Motor area by hurling a petrol bomb, killing constable Ferdous Khalil, 40, on the spot and injuring constable Faizul Islam, 40, and bus driver Bayezid, 30.
On January 3, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a Gulistan-bound bus from Abdullahpur at Paribagh during the opposition-enforced blockade program, leaving its passengers Shahina Begum, 38, and Mohammad Farid, 60, and driver Babul Hawlader injured.
Of them, Shahina, an official of American Life Insurance Company, and Farid succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on January 8.
