Outlawed killed in gunfight with rivals

Jessore: An activist of the outlawed Biplobi Communist Party was killed in a gunfight with his rivals at Subrara village in Abhoynagar upazila early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Siraj Akonji, 40, son of Afsar Akonji, a resident of the village.

Officer-in-charge of Abhoynagar Police Station Khabir Ahmed said they had information around 12:15am that a gun battle was taking place between two groups of terrorist in a jungle at Subrara village.

A team of police, led by OC Khabir Ahmed, rushed to the spot and found the body of Siraj lying in the jungle.

The terrorists of both the groups managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the police team.

Police recovered the body that bore several bullet marks and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Police also recovered one shooter gun and four bullet shells from the spot.

Siraj was accused in 10-12 cases, including murder case, filed with different police stations.

The gunfight might have occurred between the two groups over the internal feud, added the OC.
