Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Wednesday strongly protested the re-arrest of its Chittagong city unit ameer ANM Shamsul Islam immediately after his release from Chittagong central jail.
In a statement, Jamaat acting ameer Moqbul Ahmed said the government’ s fascist character has been nakedly exposed through the arrest of Shamsul Islam.
“The government has sent him to jail after re-arresting him with its ill motive to harass him politically. The government is unnecessary harassing him by implicating him in false cases during the holy month of Ramadan,” Moqbul claimed.
He called upon the government to immediately release all leaders and activists of Jamaat and Islami Chhatra Shibir, including Shamsul Islam, stopping all sorts of harassment.
Earlier in the day, Chittagong central jail authorities freed Shamsul Islam from the prison around 10:30 am on bail in two cases, including Jubo League activist Alamgir killing.
Later, he was rearrested at the jail gate in two other cases filed with Lohagara Police Station on charges of vandalising Chumuti police camp in the upazila and torching a petrol pump during the January 5 general election.
On May 21, police arrested 21 Jamaat leaders, including Shamsul Islam, from Dewanbazar party office in the port city.
