Observing that election boycott is not a brave job, Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam on Sunday said BNP caused loss to none but itself by skipping the 10th parliamentary polls.
“Polls boycott isn’t a brave job; rather it’s brave to form the government by taking part in election. BNP has caused loss to itself by boycotting the general election,” he said.
Syed Ashraf came up with the comments while addressing the council of Pallabi and Rupnagar thana units of Awami League at Mirpur-12 bus stand.
The Awami League leader said if BNP took part in the election, they can reach their voices to the country’s people. “But they themselves deprived them of the opportunity.”
Observing that BNP has done damage to democracy through their decision to boycott the polls, he also said he does not think that Awami League was benefited from BNP’s stance. “Country’s people won’t forgive them for boycotting the democracy.”
Posing a question, Syed Ashraf said why BNP is taking part in the ongoing upazila polls whereas it is against the upazila system which it scrapped after assuming power in 1991.
He continued: “Actually, it’s their plan to prove before people by securing some upazila chairman posts that people are not with Awami League. But people won’t think so as they do not trust BNP.”
