‘Criminal’ hurt in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Cox’s Bazar: An alleged criminal sustained bullet injuries in a ‘gunfight’ between his associates and police in Kalatali beach area of Cox’s Bazar town early Saturday.

The victim was identified as Dilu, 27, a ringleader of terrorist group ‘Dilu Bahini’ in the area.

Saiful Islam, sub-inspector of Cox’s Bazar Model Police Station, said acting on secret information, a team of police arrested Dilu from Pahartoli area in the town around 3.00pm.

Later police along with Dilu conducted a drive in Kalatoli area to recover firearms around 2.00 am.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, associates of Dilu opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate with shooting, triggering a gun battle.

Dilu was caught in the line of fire and sustained wounds. However, the associates of Dilu managed to flee the scene.Two constables were injured during the incident, said SI. Dilu was rushed to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital.
