Benapole: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police in separate drives arrested six alleged drug peddlers, including two women, in possession of two kilograms of hemp and 135 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from different areas of the border point here on Friday night.
The arrestees were identified as Shila Begum,22, wife of Jahangir Hossain, a resident of Goura village, Sabrina Begum,25, wife of Matlab, a resident of Raghunathpur village, Ramzan Morol,38, son of Nazrul Morol, a resident of Bhabarber village, Mahiuddin,23, son of Sahab Uddin, a resident of Shikarpur village under Port thana, and Shahidul,40, son of Romej Morol, a resident of Beneali village in Jhikargachha upazila of Jessore district and Bipul Biswas,35, son of Iman Ali, a resident of Shailkupa upazila in Jhenidah district.
Apurba Hasan, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station, said on secret information, the BGB members and police launched drives separately in two different areas and arrested them.
They also recovered two kilograms of hemp and 135 bottles of Phensidyl syrup from the arrestees’ possession.
The arrestees were involved in drug peddling for long, the OC added.
A case was filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act.
