The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday stayed the bail to BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar, the prime accused in the murder case of Fulgazi upazila parishad chairman Ekramul Haque, and asked him to surrender before the trial court within next two weeks.
Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order after the prosecution filed a petition against the bail of Minar.
Earlier, on July 17, Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar was freed from jail on bail.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said: “The bail of Minar was stayed and he is ordered to surrender before the trial court within two weeks.”
A team of Detective Branch of police arrested Minar from Kachukhet near Dhaka Cantonment in the capital on May 27 in connection with the killing of Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque, also local Awami League leader.
An HC bench comprising Justice Borhanuddin and KM Kamrul Kader recently granted bail to Minar on health grounds.
Ekram, president of Fulgazi upazila unit of Awami League, came under attack by miscreants in front of Bilasi Cinema Hall on May 20 on his way to Fulgazi upazila headquarters from his Masterpara residence in the Feni district town.
The miscreants intercepted his microbus and fired at him from a very close range and then set fire to the vehicle. They left the scene after confirming Ekram’s death on the spot.
Ekram’s brother Rejaul Haque Jasim filed a case against Minar and 35 unidentified people with Feni Model Police Station on May 21.
