The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday filed a case against a son of a retired chief engineer of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) on charge of acquiring illegal wealth.
ACC deputy director and inquiry officer Mirza Zahidul Alam filed the case against SM Faizul Haque, son of former RHD chief engineer Fazlul Haque, with Ramna Police Station in the capital this afternoon.
Following a graft allegation, the ACC on May 31, 2011 asked Faizul Haque to submit his wealth statement to the Commission.
As per the instruction of the anti-graft body, Faizul submitted his wealth report to the ACC on June 26, 2011, mentioning his wealth worth about Tk 2.62 crore, according to the first information report (FIR).
During the ACC inquiry, it was found that Faizul earned movable and immovable wealth worth Tk 2.29 crore during fiscal 2001-02 to 2011-12. Examining the tax returns and other documents, the ACC found that his net income was only about 68 lakh during the period, while the remaining wealth worth over Tk 1.6 crore illegal.
The case was filed under the Anti Corruption Commission Act 2004.
Early this month, the ACC filed a case against Suraiya Begum, the wife of former RHD chief engineer Fazlul Haque, for allegedly amassing illegal wealth worth nearly Tk 1.8 crore.
