A young man was killed and his wife critically injured as they reportedly attacked each other with sharp weapons during a quarrel over their alleged extramarital affairs at Nolbhogh under the city's Turag Police Station early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Monir Hossain, 28, son of Haji Noor Miah, while the injured as Yasmin Akhter, 22, daughter of Mostafa. They had been residing at a house at Nolbhogh.
Quoting family members, police said the couple had been at loggerheads as they suspected each other of developing extramarital affairs.
Both locked into a quarrel in between 2:00am and 3:00 am on Sunday. At one stage, they attacked each other with sharp weapons, said officer-in-charge of Turag Police Station Abir Mohammad Hossain quoting Hossain’s father Haji Nur Miah.
Hearing hue and cry, neighbors, including deceased’s brother Kabir Hossain, rushed to the house and rescued them in critical condition.
They were first taken to Uttara Crescent Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Apollo Hospital where Monir succumbed to his injuries around 5:00 am. Yasmin is now fighting for her life at the ICU of the hospital.
The body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
