Tuba Gr RMG workers to be paid Wed

tuba-garThe arrears of garment workers employed in five factories of Tuba Group will be disbursed on Wednesday as tension was growing over the issue.
The decision came from a tripartite meeting among the government, leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters association (BGMEA) and Garment Sramik Somonnoy Parishad held at the BGMEA office on Sunday.
According to the decision, workers and employees of the five garment units will be able to collect their salaries of May and June from the BGMEA Complex from 10am on the day.
The three parties agreed that the factory authorities will timely disburse the salaries of July, as fixed by them while the allowances and other arrears will be paid soon.
The demonstrating workers and employees have been asked to collect their salaries as per the decisions and withdraw their demonstration immediately.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu, former BGMEA President Tipu Munshi MP, BGMEA vice president M Shahidullah Azim, vice president (Finance) Reaz-bin-Mahmud, former presidents Annisul Huq and Mostafa Golam Kuddus were, among others, present at the meeting held with BGMEA acting President MA Mannan Kochi in the chair.
Parishad member secretary Bodruddoza Nizam, labor leaders Kamrul Ahsan, Sirajul Islam Rony, Abul Hossain, Babul Akhter, Shamima Nasrin, Ruhul Amin, Touhidur Rahman, Selim Reza, Nahidul Hasan Nayan and Tapan Saha were also present.
Tuba Group, which owned the Tazreen Fashions Ltd, have five other factories -- Tuba Textile Mills Limited, Tuba Fashion Limited, Taif Designs Limited, Mita Designs Limited, Bughshan Garments (pvt) Limited -- where workers were not paid for the last couple of months as its owner Delwar Hossain is now in jail.
Tazreen Fashions’ owner Delwar Hossain and its Chairperson Mahmuda Akhter are now in jail in the cases filed in connection with the deadly fire at the factory in Ashulia in November 2012, which killed 112 workers.
Several hundred readymade garment factory workers of Tuba Group started demonstrating in front of their factory there from the Eid day.
Many of them observed hunger strike, demanding full payment of their salaries and bonus.
