Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday said the impressive results of the third phase of upazila elections have proved again that Awami League knows how to make a turnaround.
“This election has proved that Awami League knows how to bounce back,” he told a function at AL president’s Dhanmondi political office marking the 94th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The AL leader said now a ray of hope has generated among the leaders and activists of the Awami League. “I’m seeing this (happy mood) after the success in the third phase upaliza elections.”
The ruling Awami League fought back well in the third phase of upazila elections, outplaying its archrival BNP.
In the third phase polls in 81 upazilas, the AL-supported candidates won 37 chairman posts while the BNP favourites 27.
In the first two phases last month, the BNP loyalists put up a good show. In the 213 upazila parishads, the BNP contenders won 93, AL 81 and Jamaat 20 chairman posts.
