Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday directed the officials concerned to ensure all out efforts for rescue of the passenger loaded launch Pinak-6.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the army, navy, coast guard, fire brigade, BIWTA and others concerned to work sincerely in this regard,” PM’s press wing source said.
He said that the Prime Minister is receiving information time to time from Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan about the progress of salvage work of the sunken launch, ML Pinak-6.
The Shipping Minister is now at the spot as per the directive of the Prime Minister for supervising the rescue activities, Shakil said.
He also mentioned that salvage vessel ‘Rustam’ is on way to the spot where ML Pinak-6 capsized to join the rescue operation.
ML Pinak-6 capsized in the Padma River near Mawa Ghat in Lauhajang upazila of Munshiganj district at about 11:15 am on Monday.
Police and witnesses said the mishap occurred as the launch carrying over 200 passengers from Kawrakandi sank in the river due to strong current, some 800 yards off Mawa Ghat (jetty) while it was heading towards the jetty.
