Sirajganj: At least 10 people sustained injuries as police opened rubber bullets to quell unrest between two clashing groups of locals at Railway Colony in the town on Monday.
Witnesses said a scuffle took place between two groups of young men of Railway Colony and Mahmudpur over a trifling matter during a cultural function at the colony on Friday night.
As a sequel to the incident, some young men of Mahmudpur stormed Railway Colony on Monday morning and vandalised 10 houses and two shops in the area.
The attackers also set fire to a house during the incident.
Two houses were looted at that time.
Angered by the incident, residents of Railway Colony brought out a procession in the town.
When locals tried to besiege the police station, police chased them off.
Police fired several rounds of robber bullet to disperse them, leaving 10 people injured.
Habibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said police took actions against the protesters to bring the situation under control.
Additional police members were deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
