3 ‘forest robbers’ killed in ‘gunfight’

Bagerhat: Three suspected forest robbers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Tambul Bunia of Sundarbans under Sarankhola upazila on Tuesday morning.
Two of the deceased were identified as Boro Bhai Qauder, 35, and Kolyan,30, while identify of the other could not be known immediately.
The three belonged to the forest robbers’ gang, ‘Shirsha Bahini’.
Deputy Commander of Rab-8 (Barisal) Major Anwarul Kabir said a team of the elite force launched a drive in Sundarbans around 09:24am as part of their regular crackdown against the forest robbers.
As the Rab members reached Tambul Bunia of Sunbarbans under Chandpai Range, the forest robbers opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to retaliate that triggered a gun battle.
After the gunfight that continued for 30 minutes, the robbers fled into the deep forest.
Later, the crime busting force recovered three bodies from the spot and also recovered 16 firearms and huge bullets.
