Police swoop on Tuba garments workers

Dhaka: Police have broken the hunger strike of Tuba Group workers by forcing them out from the factory.On Thursday morning, police locked the Tuba Garment keeping its agitating workers inside the factory.Tuba Group workers had been observing hunger strike in the capital's Badda demanding their dues since July 28.Earlier in the day, some garment workers of Badda thronged in front of the Tuba factory as their factories were declared shut.They tried to enter into the Tuba factory but police interrupted them that triggered a clash.During the time, police used water cannons, rubber bullets and tear shells on the workers to disperse them.Several workers were injured in the clashes.Later, police forced the agitating workers of Tuba Garment out from the factory.Following the clashes, vehicular movement on Badda road halted for more than one and half an hour.Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is paying the salaries of last two months toTuba Group workers.Till Thursday afternoon, around 1000 out of 1,458 workers have received the partial dues from the BGMEA.
