Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday expressed deep shock at the loss of lives in a tragic plane crash in Iran.

In a condolence message to Iranian President Dr Hassan Rouhani, Hasina said, “ I’m deeply shocked to learn about the tragic plane crash in Mehrabad area on Sunday morning causing loss of lives, including that of children. It’s a matter of great sorrow for us.”

She said, “At his hour of grief, on behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh and on my own behalf, I wish to convey my deepest condolences to the government and the friendly people of the Islamic Republic of Iran, particularly to the bereaved families of the victims of this tragic accident.”

The Prime Minister also sought divine blessings for the departed souls of the victims and prayed to Almighty Allah for bestowing strength on the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss.

Forty-eight people were killed when a small passenger plane crashed in the west of the Iranian capital Tehran, according to Iranian state TV.

The aircraft, which was heading to the eastern city of Tabas, went down in a residential area near Mehrabad airport on Sunday morning, state media said.
