Farmer killed in clash over land

Sylhet: A farmer was killed in a clash between two groups of villagers over a land related dispute at Pakhibil village in Jaintapur upazila on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Bakkar Miah, 45, son of late Harmuj Ali of the village.

Witnesses said Bakkar Miah and his neighbour Bakkar Ali had long been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land.

Bakkar Ali and his men attacked Bakkar Miah as he went to the disputed land at about 8:00 am, leaving him seriously injured.

Later, he died on way to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Joyonto Kumar, sub-inspector of Jointapur Police Station, confirmed the incident.

A case was filed in this connection.
