A man was burnt to death when a fire broke out in five chemical warehouses at Champatuli lane in the city’s Swarighat area on Tuesday night.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Farhaduzzaman, an official of fire service control room, said the fire broke out in a godown in the area around 9:39 pm and soon engulfed adjoining four chemical warehouses.
Being informed, 11 fire fighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze after 10 hours of frantic efforts at about 7:20 am Wednesday.
The firefighters recovered the charred body of an unidentified man from the spot in the morning.
Five fire service men were injured while extinguishing the blaze. Of the injured, one was admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
However, it was not clear what actually caused the fire, Farhaduzzaman said.
