General Secretary of ruling Awami League Syed Ashraful Islam on Saturday asked members of the party to refrain from doing anything that may hurt its image.
“Let’s not do anything that tarnishes the image of the party and weaken the organizational strength,” he said.
Syed Ashraful, also the LGRD Minister, was speaking at a discussion organized by Awami League at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) to mark the 39th martyrdom of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He said some of the negative media reports involving the party’s leaders and activists were not all incorrect.
He mentioned that the intra-party clash in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and extortion by some party activists.
“Such incidents can weaken the party leader Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
“But there is nothing to be worried as AL has the pragmatic leadership, thousands of devoted activists and above all the able leadership of Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
