Laxmipur: At least 15 activists of BNP and its political ally Jamaat-e-Islami were injured in an attack allegedly by supporters of newly elected chairmen over the 5th phase upazila election at Haidarganj in Raipur upazila on Tuesday night.
Police and witnesses said supporters of newly elected chairman Altaf Hossain of the upazila attacked the houses of BNP and Jamaat activists, including the those of Jamaat leader Ala Uddi, Abul Khayer, Saddar Syaed Ahmed and Najir Munshi, in the afternoon.
They vandalised at least 10 houses of BNP and Jamaat men at that time.
They also vandalised the mess of students of Taheri RM Fazil Madrasha in Haidarganj.
Besides, they attacked some BNP leaders as they tried to protest it, leaving 15 people inured.
The injured were admitted to different local clinics.
On information, Raipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sharmin Alam visited the spot.
Officer-in-charge of Raipur Police Station M Nasiruzzaman confirmed the incident.
