Narayanganj: US Ambassador in Dhaka Dan W Mozena on Tuesday said the USA is working along with Bangladesh and the International Labor Organization (ILO) for the restoration of Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) facilities for Bangladesh.
The US envoy came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after visiting US garment accessories factory, ‘NATco Global Packaging Dhaka Ltd’ at Adamjee Export Processing Zone (AEPZ).
Observing that Bangladesh is going through an important time in its revolution in the garment sector, Mozena said the garment industry needs to be transformed into a map.
He also noted that the US government had suspended the GSP facilities so that Bangladesh creates a roadmap for the development of the garment sector, saying they do not want the recurrence of tragedies like Rana Plaza collapse and Tazreen Fashions fire.
Mozena also observed that Bangladesh is turning into a brand day by day for its garment sector, wishing that Bangladesh becomes the No 1 brand in the world.
The US envoy described Bangladesh as a perfect place for investment, saying it has resources and its people are hardworking, laborious and courageous.
He also revealed that the US government will invest US$ 75.5 lakh in Bangladesh in 2015-16 fiscal year.
Bepza General Manager Mehebub Ali and high officials concerned of the garment accessories factory accompanied the US envoy during his visit.
