5 more Rab men held; placed on remand
Narayanganj: Police on Wednesday arrested five more members of Raid Action Battalion (Rab) in connection with the sensational seven-murder case.
Police said Emdadul Haque, Arif Hossain, Hira Mia, Bilal Hossain and Abu Tayab, all members of Rab-11, were arrested from different parts of the district on Wednesday morning.
They were later produced before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Chadni Rupom seeking a 10-day remand, but the court ordered their eight-day remand.
On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah area in Narayanganj city. Hours into their abduction, senior lawyer of the Narayanganj District Judge’s Court, Chandan Kumar Sarker, and his driver were abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.
Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30. Besides, the body of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the river on May 1.
Meanwhile, three former Rab officials, including Lt Col Tareque, Major Arif Hossain, Lt Commander MM Rana, who were arrested earlier, confessed to their involvement in the sensational seven murders.
