A Dhaka court yesterday placed a man, arrested in connection with Thursday’s triple murder in the city’s Moghbazar area, on a five-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Tarek Mainul Islam Bhuiyan passed the order after police produced Zakir Hossain Jony before his court seeking a 10-day remand for him.
Plainclothes police arrested Jony from the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) area in the city around 8:15pm on Saturday.
Earlier, a case was filed against 15 people, including Jony, in connection with the murder.
Unidentified assailants gunned down three people, including a woman, and injured another in a house following rivalry with the local land grabbers and extortionists at Sonalibagh in the city’s Moghbazar area on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Ranu Akhter Brishti, 28, wife of Mohammad Abul Hossain, her younger brother Hridoy’s friends -- Munna, 20, and Billal Hossain, 25. Hridoy also sustained bullet injuries and he has been fighting for life at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Kalachand, brother of Brishti, one of the deceased, filed the case with Ramna Police Station on Friday night.
