Govt unconcerned about flood victims: Khaleda

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday alleged that the government has failed to take any effective measure to assuage the sufferings of the flood-hit people in the northern and central regions, as it is least bothered about people’s plight.
In a statement, Khaleda expressed grave concern over the mounting sufferings of the flood victims.
“River erosion is devouring many villages. Flood-control dams and markets are also being destroyed. The flood-affected people are badly suffering for lack of food, pure water and medicine. In this disastrous situation, the government remains unconcerned and unresponsive,” the BNP chief added.
Khaleda, also a former Prime Minister, said the government is yet to take any effective measurer to stand beside the flood victims with emergency supplies.
Mentioning that flood will push the country’s people into a deeper crisis, the BNP chief urged all, including her party’s leaders and activists at all levels, to come forward in aid of the flood victims to overcome the crisis.
She also expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and assets, including homesteads and livestock, and food grains by in the flood onslaught.
Khaleda also prayed for salvation of those drowned in floodwater and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
