Bangladesh on Monday achieved the membership of Information Technology Professional Examination Council (ITPEC) that enables the country to give internationally recognized certificates for the IT professionals and graduates.
The Japan-based Information Technology Promotion Agency (IPA), a regulatory body for evaluating the Information Technology Engineers Examination (ITEE), conferred the ITPEC membership on Bangladesh at a function held at the auditorium of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC).
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the BCC and the IPA on the occasion. BCC Executive Director SM Asfak Hossain and IPA Vice-chairman Hisaya Tanaka inked the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Abdul Latif Siddique attended the function as the chief guest. State Minister for ICT division Zunaid Ahmed Palak and Japan Ambassador Shiro Sadoshima were present as special guests with ICT division secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan in the chair.
Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Mikio Hataeda, Representative of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Kei Kawano, Deputy Director General of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Hideyuki Ohashi and IT Engineer Management Project Director of BCC Sheikh Amzad Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
Addressing the function, Abdul Latif Siddique said as the member of ITPEC now Bangladesh has the authority to hold Information Technology Engineers Examinations (ITEE) every year.
He said the ITEE is the examination for evaluating skill of IT engineers and successful candidates will get global recognition, which will ensure easy access to job markets.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the ITPEC membership will help Bangladesh export its skilled IT human resources worldwide.
Nazrul Islam Khan said the ITEE will play an important role to develop confidence among the Bangladeshi IT engineers for competing in the global job markets.
ITEE test is recognized in 12 Asian countries, including the second largest IT job market Japan, and also honoured in the markets of European and American countries.
The ITEE is basically a national standardized examination of Japan for IT professionals where 5-6 lakh IT students and IT professionals attend every year.
In Bangladesh, the ICT division under Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry introduced ITEE under a project titled ‘Capacity Building on ITEE Management’ with the help of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with a view to giving a global recognition to the skills, knowledge and experience of Bangladesh IT professionals.
