Chittagong: Miscreants hurled crude bombs at a shuttle train of Chittagong University (CU) at Chowdhuryhat Station here on Monday.
Witnesses said a group of miscreants hurled several crude bombs at the shuttle train as it reached the station on its way to the campus around 7:45 am.
The miscreants also set ablaze a tyre on the rail tracks. However, there was no report of any casualty and injury.
Nayek Abdul Kuddus, in-charge of the railway station, said the miscreants hurled the bombs from a land adjoining to the station and fled the scene.
Police fired 17-18 rounds of bullet in the air to bring the situation under control, he said.
Following the incident, 20 policemen have been deployed in each CU shuttle train for ensuring the security of passengers, he added.
CU Proctor Prof Siraj Ud Daula said the law and order situation on the campus is normal.
Earlier, police conducted a drive at Suhrawardy Hall of the university following a clash between activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir and Chattra League on August 24. Police recovered some petrol bombs and stones from the dormitory.
The university authorities closed the hall for an indefinite period the following day.
Besides, Shah Amanat Hall was shut earlier as police sealed off the Shibir- dominated dormitory following a fierce clash between Bangladesh Chhatra League and Islami Chhatra Shibir activists on January 12 which left two students dead.
Meanwhile, the resident students of the two halls under the banner of ‘Residential Students of Hall’ on Thursday called a strike from Sunday demanding reopening of the halls.
