Huge arms, ammo haul again in Habiganj jungles

Moulvibazar: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive on Tuesday again recovered a huge cache of firearms and ammunition from a jungle at Satchhari, near the Indian border, in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj district.
During the drive, the members of the elite force found nine SMG, one SNC, one beta gun, one auto rifle, six SLR, two LMG, one slipper stereoscope sight and 2,400 rounds of ammunition from Satchhari reserve forest. All the arms and ammunition were packed in containers.
At a press briefing in Sreemangal in Moulvibazar, Commander Mufti Mahmood Khan, director of legal and media wing of RAB headquarters, said they had secret information that huge quantity of arms and ammunition were amassed in the Satchhari reserve forest and adjoining area.
A team of RAB-9 conducted a special drive at Satchhari jungle to recover firearms and ammunition on Sunday morning. They launched the drive at the Tipra Palli around 10.00 am and dug out soil from the veranda of a house which belonged to Ranjit Dev Barman, brother of headman Chitta Ranjan Dev Barman.
During the drive, the RAB members recovered the arms and ammunition till early Tuesday. The operation was still continuing, said Commander Mahmood.
Asked about the possible users of the arms and ammunition, he said they are yet to find full information about the source of arms and on the users.
An investigation is going on in this regard, said the RAB director (legal & media wing).
The Commanding Officer of RAB-9, Wing Commander Riad Hossain Rabbani, was, among others, present at the briefing.
On June 3, the elite force first recovered huge arms and ammunition from the Satchhari reserve forest. The recovered firearms included some 200 rocket launchers, huge anti-tank explosives, mortar shells, and chargers of rocket launchers.
