Two organizations on Saturday demanded the arrest of former Planning Minister AK Khandker for what they said sedition charge for distorting the Liberation War history in his book, titled ‘1971: Bhetore, Baire’.
Bangabandhu Foundation and Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad came up with the demand at their separate demonstrations in front of the National Press Club.
They also demanded the government ban the book and seize its all copies from the market. The book, published by Prothoma Publication, was launched on September 2.
AK Khandker, who was the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Armed Forces during the Liberation War, in his book stated that Bangabandhu concluded his historic March 7 speech saying ‘joi Pakistan’.
He also criticized the role of the Awami League leadership during the Liberation War, saying that the political leadership was not ready to lead the war.
Speaking at the human chain of Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad, Agrani Bank director Balaram Poddar said, “AK Khandker made false statements about the Liberation War in his book as part of a conspiracy.”
“He has committed a subversive act by distorting the Liberation War history. So, he must face exemplary punishment,” Balaram added.
Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad president Jinnat Ali Khan moderated the demonstration program of his organization.
The human chain program of Bangabandhu Foundation was chaired by its founding president Mashiur Rahman. AL information and research affairs secretary Afzal Hossain spoke at the human chain as the chief guest.
