Man held with 13.5kg gold in Ctg

Chittagong: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a young man along with 115 gold bars weighing 13.5 kg from the Shah Amanat International Airport area on Sunday evening.
The arrestee was identified as Belal Uddin, 28, son of Anwar Hossain of Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar district.
Being tipped off that Belal, who landed at the airport from an Oman Airlines flight from Muscat around 5:30pm, would carry a luggage full of gold, a team of the elite force took position at the car parking of the airport, said Rab-7 ASP Sohel Mahmud.
As Belal stepped out of the airport with his luggage around 6:30pm, the Rab team challenged him.
Later, the crime busters recovered the 115 gold bars worth Tk 6.5 crore searching his luggage and arrested him, said the Rab official.
It was not clear how Belal came out of the airport with the luggage full of gold.
